Do I have to pay for BRIA healthcare services?

Although the government does pay for some types of healthcare and mental health services, talk therapies and allied health services are not usually covered by the public/provincial healthcare system. Since BRIA offers many types of talk therapy, most of our services require direct payment. Specifically,  services by OT MSW, RSW, RP, RP(Q), NP, and RN providers are uninsured by the public health system. Each service at BRIA is billed individually. If you see an MD at BRIA, the time you spend with the MD is covered by the government and you will not be billed for this service. If you have any questions about whether a service is insured by the public system, or uninsured by the public system, please ask your Care Coordinator prior to starting care. If you have private health insurance, extended benefits, or a health spending account personally or through your employer, you will likely have coverage for many BRIA services. Please look into your benefits plan or coverage inclusions for more detailed information about which BRIA services are covered for you.

Why does BRIA focus on the reproductive life stages?

There are many commonalities among people who are trying to conceive, pregnant, postpartum, and perimenopausal. At each one of these stages, a combination of hormonal changes, relationship and role changes, identity changes, and psychological changes all take place at one time. This is a lot of stress for a person to cope with all at once, and the BRIA team of professionals is experienced in helping people navigate these complex times. Often people need a combination of therapy, other professional support such as sleep, nutrition or parenting help, hormonal assessments, and possibly medication to address mental health issues. BRIA offers comprehensive treatments in one place to help those who are struggling during these vulnerable life stages.

Who can BRIA help?

BRIA was created to provide evidence-based, comprehensive mental health care services to people who are struggling with depression, anxiety and stress across reproductive life stages; while trying to conceive, during pregnancy, postpartum, during early days of parenting, and through the menopausal transition. BRIA is designed to support patients from age 18 – 60.  BRIA welcomes gender diverse individuals who are struggling with mental health issues throughout these life stages. 

BRIA is not a crisis service. The BRIA platform and patient responses to symptom questionnaires are not monitored 24/7. We are not able to provide services to people who have active suicidal thinking or are in an active manic or psychotic episode. How do I know which services I need?

We suggest that you start your journey with BRIA by doing a MINI Mental Health Assessment with one of our Care Coordinators. That way, the BRIA team will have a sense of what you are struggling with and will be able to point you in the right direction. This means that we can match you with the right type of treatments for the problems that you are dealing with at this time.

Do the therapists offer a free 15-minute session so I can meet them?

BRIA does not offer a free session to meet the therapists. We have gathered a wonderful team of care providers and therapists at BRIA. All of our health care providers are licensed, vetted, experts in women’s mental healthcare. If you are unsure of the type of service or provider who can best help you, we suggest you start with a MINI Mental Health Assessment by one of our BRIA Care Coordinators who will create a personalized Care Plan for you. This plan can help you find the services that may be most helpful, based on your stage, your symptoms, and specific concerns.
