Do you ever feel so down, anxious and/or overwhelmed that things that you used to do and enjoy now feel so hard to begin? Do you often think to yourself, “I just wish I had the motivation”?
If this resonates with you, then BRIA’s Embrace the Change Therapy (ETCT) may be the perfect therapy for you. ETCT uses the principles of Behavioural Activation (BA) to help you make changes to what you are currently doing or not doing to positively impact your mood and help you to become the engaged person you once were.
BA is for you if you are:
- Sensing that there are times you have ‘better’ or ‘worse’ days but can’t explain why
- Really want to get back to your daily routine, hygiene practices, going to the gym, meeting up with friends but you just don’t know where or how to start.
- Feeling worse when you are ‘stuck in’ your thoughts but better if you take some action
- Finding it hard to identify what you enjoy
- Avoiding activities you used to enjoy or do easily
Evidence shows that BA is comparable to antidepressant medication. In fact, in a recent review by May, D., Litvin, B., & Allegrante, J. (2024) in which several studies were reviewed looking at BA-based interventions used to promote a variety of health behaviors in individuals with depression, including substance use, exercise, medication adherence, and occupational and social success, it was shown, in most of the studies reviewed, that that BA was effective in promoting health behavior changes and reducing depression.
Through the use of specific tools, this therapy will help you make tiny changes to the “what you do/don’t do” that will eventually result in a significant impact on the “how you feel.”
Mel Robbins says it best in her clip of her podcast below: “If you want to be a better you, start acting like the person you want to become” and this therapy will help you get started.
